The state Himachal Pradesh is under a lot of development. From getting its own airport to the Atal Tunnel. Now in the few months, tourists will be able to travel in the vistadome buses inside the Rohtang tunnel.
According to reports, Rohtang Tunnel is named as Atal Tunnel in the memory of former Prime Minister of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The inauguration for the same is due next month.
The Himachal Chief Minister, Jai Ram Thakur made the above announcement on the Independence Day function in Kullu. A News daily outlined him saying that Rohtang tunnel was former PM Vajpayee’s vision. Also, the inauguration will be by the PM Narendra Modi.
Also, the announcement of the Rohtang tunnel project was by Mr. Vajpayee on June 3, 2000. It is said, he had a special fondness for Himachal Pradesh, mainly Kullu-Manali. He considered it his second home.
Talking about the Vistadome buses, it will have a glass rooftop. By this, there will be a full view of the mountains around. Also, the buses will run through the 8.8 km tunnel. The tunnel is between Manali and Leh at a height of 3000 m above sea level.
The cost of making the tunnel is around cost INR 32000 crore. Also, it will reduce the 474 km distance between Manali and Leh by 46 km. So, now the journey will take around 5.5 hours which earlier was 8 hours.
The places that are known for running vistadome coaches are, Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, Kangra Valley Railway, Kalka-Shimla Railway, and Matheran Hill. Earlier, the railways announced its decision to make all mountain trains with vistadome coaches. So, this will offer great wide views of the valleys.
