Mussoorie is quiet a popular destination in Uttarakhand that sees a lot of visitors every year. Because of this, traffic jams are absolutely but natural. So, seeing this, the Union Road Transport and Highways minister Nitin Gadkari announced a 700 crore two-lane tunnel project. The basic aim of the project is to reduce the traffic congestion on the mountain road.
In the Twitter post, the Union Minister mentions that the Project Management Consultancy (PMC) will take care of the project. Also, he mentions that the tunnel will be 2.74 km long and would provide easier and congestion-free connectivity to Mussoorie town, Mall Road, and LBSNAA (IAS Academy).
Moreover, the Chairman of Mussoorie Municipal Council (MMC) Anuj Gupta said that it is a long-term solution to traffic problems in the town.
People of the town are quite happy with the decision. Uttarakhand Hotel Association president said that it is a welcoming step.
“We witness terrible traffic jams at Gandhi Chowk during summers. Once constructed, this tunnel should help ease traffic congestion as the vehicles passing through the tunnel and going towards Gangotri-Yamunotri, Uttarkashi and Kempty falls can be diverted,”
We are hoping for a beautiful long tunnel to come up soon. This would ease our travel and its surely going to be fun!
