Spiti & Rohtang Tunnel close for tourists, night curfew in Shimla!

Lahaul-Spiti valley in Himachal Pradesh sees tourists in high numbers during the winter season. But those who made plans to visit here, might need to cancel for 6 months. As per reports, tourists are not permitted to enter the region till April 2021. This is so because of the sudden rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in Lahaul-Spiti.

Also, as per reports, a police check-post has been set up at Sissu. This is to stop outsiders from visiting the valley. Moreover, the Rohtang Tunnel, linking Manali to Lahaul-Spiti, will be accessible only to the locals.

Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Rai, Lahaul-Spiti, told a publication that sub-zero temperatures, lack of medical facilities, high altitude etc. may cause severe damage to public health, if Corona cases go unchecked. Moreover, because of change in lifestyle of people and severe climatic conditions, people are vulnerable to the virus.

Also, authorities in Keylong have banned public gatherings of more than four under Section 144. The Himachal government may also enforce night curfew such as Shimla, Lahaul-Spiti, Kullu and Mandi.
This means all homestays and tourist accommodations will stay shut in Spiti for the year 2020. Moreover, hotels and tourist properties have begin operations in other parts of Himachal. As it is a peak season for them. Also, Bars and restaurants are open in the state but with health and safety norms.
