The Prasar Bharati has come up with a new initiative to keep its listeners engaged. All India Radio (AIR) will broadcast a series of short stories by renowned author Ruskin Bond. Not only this, he will himself read the stories! Isn’t it just amazing?
An AIR statement said, “The series commenced from May 1 and will be available on Akashvani’s terrestrial as well as digital platforms,”.
The series is titles ‘Bonding Over The Radio’. It will initially run for 15 days. This will feature stories exclusively handpicked for AIR by the multiple award winning essayist and novelist.
Everything from autobiographical sketches to ghost and fantasy stories will be narrated. You will also get to listen animal and family anecdotes and even young love in his inimitable style.
He will record over telephone from his cottage in Mussoorie. The stories will surely bring some cheer to listeners.
The broadcasts will be available on Prasar Bharati’s mobile app ‘NewsOnAir’. Apart from that, it will be available on three channels – FM Gold, Indraprastha and AIR Live News 24×7 at 7.10 am and 10.10 pm daily.
It is a collaborative production between the External Services Division and the central English features unit of the AIR.
Ruskin Bond has won the Sahitya Academy Award in 1992 for Our Trees Still Grow in Dehra, his novel in English. He also got the Padma Shri in 1999 and the Padma Bhushan in 2014.
