There is some new information on web about Apple’s iPad and MacBook devices that are in rumors. It may use Mini-LED display technology. A report from Digitimes states that, Apple might launch a 12.9-inch mini LED-backlit iPad Pro by next year. Also, a mini LED-backlit MacBook could come in the later half. Also, it adds that Epistar will supply the over-10,000 mini LEDs which will be in use of the iPad Pro tablet.
“Epistar is ready to start production of mini LEDs by modifying its blue-light LED chipmaking equipment for producing such mini LEDs in third-quarter 2020,” stated the report.
For the MacBook, the firm might hire Osram Opto as a supplier for mini-LEDs.
Earlier, as per Kuo, Apple might be working on two MacBook devices with mini-LED display tech. One might be a 16-inch model while the other a 14.1-inch model.
Also, Kuo said that Apple’s 12.9-inch iPad Pro is going to be the first device to get mini-LED. Mentioning, initially the Epistar faced yield issues. Also, the supplier has rapidly made improvements in its mini LED capabilities in order to ensure large quantities of chips.
The mini LED of Apple will go for mass production in the fourth quarter of 2020. Also, the yield issues made the analyst revise the display shipment estimate by up to 50%.
So, Apple’s new mini LED displays might help to accelerate the adoption of the new display technology. As per Kuo, about 30-40% of iPads shipping in 2021 will have new display technology.
