According to the Chief Minister of the state, Jai Ram Thakur, an approval from the government for the construction of the airport has already been received. Also, he made the information public only after meeting with Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister For Civil Aviation, Housing and Urban Affairs.
The Airport Authority of India (AAI) and state government are collaborating with each other for building the airport. The Construction will begin as soon as the comprehensive project plan is put into place by the AAI. Also, the land that needs to be acquires for constructing the airport is being handled by the local government.
Mandi is one of the best places if you want some peace and calm. The town is 83 kilometres away from Prashar Lake and 145 kilometres away from Shimla. It is an important commercial hub of the state. Also, the town experiences tourists round the year. This historic town is built along the river Beas. This is because it has both freezing winters and not so hot summers. Also, the place is famous for its 81 old stone temples.
So, the basic purpose for building the airport in Mandi is to encourage tourism in Himachal. This will improve the connectivity. Also, the landing of ATR74 airplanes in Shimla and A320 airplanes in Gaggal is in the plan.
