Instagram has come up with a new feature. It has introduced universal QR codes which can be scanned from any third-party camera app. The feature aims at convenience of users and business owners. By scanning the codes, customers can trace businesses. With this they can get information about store hours, buy items, or an option to follow the account. According to The Verge, the feature was first launched in Japan.
The new update is only for mobile apps. The code for sharing Instagram profiles is relatively familiar, as noted by 9to5Mac. Earlier, one could scan only with in-built camera. But now iwth update, anyone can access Instagram profiles via any camera app supporting QR code reading.
Generation of code:
Codes can be generated by going in the Settings on Instagram. The option “QR code” will be there. You will have to select the QR code option. The username or name tag will appear. As soon as you save it, it will act as a QR code.
Also, there are many themes for the background. You can select colours, emoticons, and even take selfies while generating QR codes on Instagram.
You can also scan the QR code. This can be done by going to the “Scan” option at the bottom of the screen. Once saved, one can share it through the option given on Instagram.
Instagram had said in a statement,
“As many stores remain closed and social media serves as an online Main Street, the shift to doing business online is more urgent than ever. We’re announcing new ways for people to support and discover small businesses, along with more tools for keeping businesses informed and connected with their customers,”.
