After the ease of travel restrictions in Himachal Pradesh, it has seen a surge in visitors. Recently, Director General of Police Sanjau Kundu informed that a record number of 18500 tourists have been visiting Himachal Pradesh per day. Whereas 7500 tourists have been visiting the Atal Tunnel Rohtang (ATR).
Adding, the police have managed to effectively tackle the challenge.
Also, further adding that they have never witnessed this much flow of tourists in Himachal Pradesh. In view of the current situation, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jairam Thakur said that tourists cannot be stopped from entering the state. However, regulations are into place.
As per an official, the Chief Minister demanded funds for the construction of the proposed airport. This is at Nagchala in Mandi district.
Also, the Chief Minister noted that the HP Police is facing two main issues from the tourists. One is flouting of COVID guidelines. The other is tourists indulging in violence with the locals. He informed that the entire police force is on ground. Also, additional personnel are there at tourist hotspots and inter-state borders to check vehicles randomly. This is to ensure no one is carrying weapons or flouting COVID rules. Police are there in tourist hotspots, such as the Atal Tunnel, Dharamshala, Manali, Kasauli, Dalhousie, and Shimla.
