There has been news about massive data breach about the personal information of over 533 million Facebook users. The data had contact number, Facebook IDs, birthdates, and more. As per the Business Insider report, personal information of over 3.2 crore users in the US, 1.1 crores in the UK, and 60 lakh in India is out. Also, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and other co-founders Chris Hughes and Dustin Moskovitz were among the affected ones.
Security expert Alon Gal said on twitter,
“all 533,000,000 Facebook records were just leaked for free. This means that if you have a Facebook account, it is extremely likely the phone number used for the account was leaked. I have yet to see Facebook acknowledging this absolute negligence of your data”.
Gal cautioned users that the cybercriminals will use the information for social engineering, scamming, hacking, and marketing. You can check whether your is out or not. So, for this, there a sites where you can check.
One such site is—Have I Been Pwned or https://haveibeenpwned.com/. All you have to do is go to the website and type the email address that you use to log in to Facebook. So, the website will tell if you about breach of data and also tell you whether you have been a part of any other breaches or not.
Also, there is a separate website to check whether your number has been involved in the breach or not. As per Gizmodo a new site naming The News Each Day or the newseachday.com.
