The two hills stations of West Bengal, Darjeeling and Kalimpong are now open for tourists. They have open again after six months. Also, as per reports, Sikkim may open for tourists from October.
West Bengal state government allowed hotels to resume in Darjeeling and Kalimpong on september 5. This will be with proper distancing and other safety measures. Also, hotels in containment zones are not open yet.
The President of Darjeeling Hotel Owners’ Association, Sangey Tshering Bhutia, said, they are optimistic about tourists returning to the region. Also, it is very likely that the tourism industry would return back to normal in a phased manner.
Thousands of tourists visit the places every year. But due to pandemic, the tourism has been under great effect. Tourism is an important part of the people life there. So, with the openings again, the business might revive.
Hoteliers stated that they made plans to maintain hygiene in their properties when tourists start coming in.
The MD of a hotel shared his plan. As per him, once a guest checks out of their room, they will sanitize it and keep vacant for at least three days before allotting it to another guest. After that, they will make sure the visitors undergo temperature checks. Also, there will be no buffet system and all hotel staff would be wearing masks and gloves.
