Cases in India reach over 1.1 lakh, Second biggest single day spike

On Thursday, nationwide Covid cases reached 1.1 lakh with 5,609 new cases detected in the last 24 hours. This is the second-biggest single-day rise in the number of Covid-19 cases in the country.

According to the Union health ministry update, the total number of cases in the country are 1,12,359. The active cases stand  at 63,624, and those recovered are 45,299. Also, 3,435 people have died in the last 24 hours, the ministry said.

On Wednesday, the Union Health Ministry said that the recovery rate has risen to nearly 40 per cent. It also said that hospital support was needed by less than 7 per cent patients.

The number across the country rose by more than 5,600 on wednesday. It is the country’s biggest single-day jump, to reach 1,06,750.

In almost two weeks, the number of coronavirus disease cases have doubled up from 49,391 on May 6 to 1,06,139 on Wednesday.

A fourth phase of lockdown now extends t till May 31. But many restrictions have been lifted up for economic activities.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said, that domestic flights will resume in a calibrated manner from May 25. After two months the services will resume.

Also, The Union Home Ministry said later in the night that domestic air travel no more includes in prohibited activities.
