On Wednesday, Amazon made an announcement about the launch of its smart plug in India. These are Alexa-enabled and now you can control appliances through voice commands.
You can buy these from the e-commerce platform, costing ₹1,999. Also, the device is available offline at Amazon kiosks in Mumbai and Bangalore. You can also get at select Croma and Reliance Digital outlets. Moreover, the company is teaming the Smart Plug for ₹999 with the Echo Dot speaker.
The company said in the release, “With the Amazon Smart Plug, customers can control their connected appliances even when they’re not next to their appliances by using the Alexa app. For example, turn on the aquarium filter while not at home, or turn off the TV remotely while being in back to back meetings to regulate kids’ TV time”.

So, the new smart plug works with a variety of appliances such as lamps, table fans, electric kettle, room coolers, televisions, mobile chargers and more. As per company, it works with appliances that have switches. Also, they do not support heavy appliances.
The plug comes with 3-pin socket design. Having a 6A power rating, it comes with a state retention feature. As per Amazon, the appliances go back to the state that is on or off in case of a power outage and resumption.
How to use
To set up, just plug the device into a socket. After that, pair the device to your Alexa account through the mobile app.
After pairing, ask your smart speaker in the house to control the appliances.
