Additional Rs. 40,000 Crore Has Been Alloted To MGNREGA

The fifth and the last tranche of the coronavirus economic package was out today by the Finance Minister. She told the allocation Rs 40,000 crores, additional to the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment (MGNREGA) budget estimate. This is done to make sure that the migrants not face any unemployment.

Earlier the budget estimate for MNREGA was Rs 61,000 crore. An additional Rs 40,000 crore has been alloted, said Nirmala Sitharaman. This is for the benefit of the labourers and workers who are moving back to their homes and villages.

According to her, this step will help the labourers during the monsoon season. It will also boost the rural economy.

“Since many have gone back to their villages”, they might face job loss and so, “if they enroll, they can get jobs” under the scheme, Nirmala Sitharaman said.

“This will help generate 300 more person days,” Anurag Thakur, MoS Finance and Corporate Affairs, added.

At present, the cases in India have reached 90,000 plus. 2400 plus cases came out in last 24 hours. Maharashtra has extended the lockdown to 31st May. Also, there are certain liberalisation in the Lockdown 4.0. The metro service may also start.
